Module 3: MS Publisher - Design & Create a Cookbook (2 days)
- Download the link below and save it to your "Technology 9" folder in your Google Drive, using the filename <Firstnamelastname_cookbook> (for example: kellyschermann_cookbook).
- You will do all of your work in the template you downloaded, and it will become your own cookbook. Be sure to save your work often to avoid losing it. The instructions to complete the cookbook will be here on my website (below the link you downloaded). Please also print off the rubric to see how you will be evaluated.
Cookbook Preparation & Instructions:
- You will need to gather a variety of recipes. Ideally, you will gather recipes that you enjoy cooking and eating. It would be wonderful if some of your recipes were traditional family recipes that have been in your family for many years. - There are 11 categories of recipes and you need to provide 2 recipes for each category. This means you need a total of 22 recipes in your cookbook. You are NOT ALLOWED to use a recipe more than once! The eleven Recipe categories are as follows:
- For the last three categories (Crockpot Specialties, Ethnic Specialties, and Holiday Recipes), you can choose any kind of recipe that fits that category (for example a soup, or a dessert, etc.).. - Please use the order of categories I have provided above as the order for your cookbook. - The template that you downloaded is quite easy to use and manipulate. Be sure to save your work regularly. and the task should be as simple as you entering the recipe information. I suggest that you leave the formatting alone and put things where the template has them located already. You may manipulate some items in your cookbook, but I recommend you keep this to a minimum. - The most important thing here is that your formatting is consistent. Use the same fonts, sizes, colour, etc. For example, if your first Category/Section Page ("Appetizers & Snacks") is in the colour red, and it's a size 20 Comic Sans font, then all the rest of your Category/Section Pages must be in the colour red, using a size 20 Comic Sans font. - Create a clever title for your cookbook and enter it onto the front page of your cookbook, in place of the word "Recipes." Be sure to also put your name on the front page of the cookbook. - Page 4 of the template is not a page that you will keep. It is provided to show you what a finished recipe page looks like so you can model your own recipe pages like the "Grilled Tofu" page. Follow this method exactly to be successful! When you are finished your cookbook, please delete the page about grilled tofu (it should till be page 4), because it is not part of your cookbook. - Your recipes need to fit on one page. If they do not, you will need to adjust the font size accordingly. - Go to the "Table of Contents" and enter the page numbers for your recipe sections. Please follow the example provided for the first category, "Appetizers & Snacks" (but be sure to enter actual page numbers). - Each one of your recipes will require a colour image of what the final dish looks like. This means that you need 22 images. Images go on each Category/Section page (for example, "Salads"). Put the images on the Category/Section pages and label the pictures. Images do not go on the recipe pages. - The Category/Section pages where you insert your images are divided in half. Upload your image in the appropriate cell and be sure it is centred. If you click in the cell, a box opens that allows you to either select an image from an existing file on your computer, or from an Internet image search. Then, above the image, title your images with the name of the dish (in the same places where you see <image 1> and <image 2>). - Check over our completed project to be sure that you have used proper capitalization, spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. You will be marked on this component. - This is a relatively easy module, and it is an exercise in following directions properly, so if you do that, you should earn a good mark! - If the class does a good job on their individual cookbooks, I will consider putting them all together into a master cookbook, and it may be a wonderful method of fundraising for our class for a trip, resources, prizes, etc |
